Welcome to right this moment’s Photo of the Day! The Enfield revolver was a British .476 caliber handgun adopted in 1880 as the usual sidearm of the British navy and colonial forces. Designed on the Royal Small Arms Manufacturing unit in Enfield, it had a top-break motion and an uncommon Owen Jones extracting system that pulled the cylinder ahead when opened to eject spent circumstances. Nevertheless, it was out of date upon introduction, because it nonetheless loaded one cartridge at a time by means of a gate like older single-action revolvers. After rapidly being changed in British service within the late Eighteen Eighties by the Webley revolver, the Enfield continued to see use by the Canadian North-West Mounted Police from 1882 to 1911. However its awkward dealing with, anemic ballistics, and loading limitations meant the MK II had a brief service life.
