They known as the heavy-antlered 14-point buck “Moose.” And the Iwashige household had been after the outsized Kansas whitetail for the reason that youth season opened in September.
“We had been getting path digicam pictures of some bucks at one spot, then a brand new, large buck confirmed up, and he grew to become our goal,” Grant Iwashige tells Out of doors Life. “My 10-year-old son, Wyatt, had already taken a buck within the youth deer season. So, my 7-year-old son, Ryker, was gonna attempt for Moose with a crossbow.”

On Nov. 9, Grant and his two sons had been searching from a floor blind on a pal’s 240-acre farm northwest of Wichita. They’d gotten path cam pictures of Moose that day and knew they had been in the correct spot.

“We had gotten two path cam pictures, one within the [morning], and the opposite in the course of the afternoon,” Grant says. “We knew Moose was inside 20 yards of the blind after we obtained into it that Saturday afternoon.”
Finally, the three hunters noticed Moose stroll away simply 10 yards from them. The buck was upwind, and Grant needed it to note the buck decoy that they had out in entrance of the blind, so he rattled.

“Moose stopped, listened, pinned his tail between his legs, and bolted away,” says Grant. However he believed the buck would come again, and half-hour later, he did.
